Taken By Trees announces new LP: Other Worlds

Victoria Bergsman has announced a new Taken By Trees album called Other Worlds, due this fall (October 2) on Secretly Canadian. Produced by the Tough Alliance‘s Henning Fürst and inspired by Bergsman’s recent time spent in the Hawaiian islands, the record is a beautiful, seamless union of dub/reggae and pedal steel, also inspired in part the Beach Boys + Augustus Pablo (it was seeing some of this utterly transportive new material performed live for the first time at SXSW 2012 that made it essential that we book the band for GvsB II). Bergsman says of her inspiration for Other Worlds:

“I remember two songs that really triggered the whole ‘Hawaiian/tropical’ album idea and kept hanging on through out the whole process of the album as sound and feel atmosphere. The first song was the instrumental track Diamond Head by The Beach Boys and the other one is Augustos Pablo‘s song AP Spezial, also an instrumental track. Both of the songs have beautiful nature sounds added to them of waves, thunder and birds. The Beach Boys song turned me onto pedal steels and the Augustos Pablo song turned me onto the more dubby feeling.”

Check out the short + sweet Amanda Marsalis-directed trailer below, featuring a preview of dreamy album highlight “Only You.”

In addition to her forthcoming show at GvsB II on July 28, you can also catch Taken By Trees at Noisette in San Francisco on August 4.
