Little Joy's Binki Shapiro emailed us over the weekend to let us know that her charity benefit auction goes live today. The auction, which will raise funds for "rebuilding and maintaining long term sustainability in Haiti," includes lots of cool one-of-a-kind items from some of your favorite bands, including the guitar that Ed Droste learned to play on, a No Age shirt that will get you into their shows free for life, an original painting by Cat Power (pictured above), toy robots signed and decorated by Daft Punk, and much more...

rodrigo/fabrizio/binki :: little joy

Little Joy's show at the Lounge in Deep Ellum on Wednesday night was a breezy, relaxed affair that only reinforced why we love the group's self-titled debut so much. Backed for much of the night by tourmates the Dead Trees, Rodrigo, Binki, and Fabrizio played virtually the entire album to an adoring, enthusiastic crowd of roughly 200. Highlights included an awesome cover of Helen Shapiro's (NOT Binki's mom, by the way) "Walking Back to Happiness," and a beautiful rendition of album standout "Don't Watch Me Dancing." The vibe inside the tiny venue was akin to that of some cramped speakeasy, and the band (especially Fab) seemed genuinely appreciative and moved by the warm Dallas welcome. Come back soon, guys. Check the full setlist and a video of the band performing "How To Hang a Warhol" here. Here are some photos:

listen to little joy

One of my most listened to (and posted about) albums of this fall has been Fab Moretti and crew's warm and charming lo-fi self-titled debut LP as Little Joy. The record finally comes out next week on Rough Trade, but you can hear the whole thing now at the band's myspace page...

best new premature on repeat : little joy

Little Joy is the new project from Rodrigo Amarante, Binki Shapiro, and everyone's favorite Stroke, Fab Moretti. From the glorious calypso-garage-folk of the opening track, "The Next Time Around," the band's self-titled debut LP is a simple, tastefully executed affair, anchored by perfectly classic melodies and Noah Georgeson's warm production...
