premiere: listen to Hazel English’s dreamily wistful “Fix”

Hazel English

The first two songs we heard from Oakland-via-Australia songwriter Hazel English were modest, shimmery indie-pop gems that felt tailor-made for breezy days spent at the beach, daydreaming your way through the dog days of summer...

Liz Harris’ “pop group” Helen unveils another track: listen to “Violet”

HELEN

Last month, Liz Harris of Grouper announced the debut LP from her "pop group" Helen, and unveiled the record's stellar lead single "Motorcycle", a track that we said at the time maintained "all the beautiful, delicate haze of a Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill-era Grouper song, before erupting into a glorious, blown-out fuzz-pop jam...

listen: Beach House share gorgeous new single Sparks

BEACH HOUSE SPARKS

Beach House unveil a dreamy new jam from their beautiful, long-awaited new album Depression Cherry: with its distorted, cascading washes of shoegaze guitar, "Sparks" isn't necessarily the most indicative of the whole record and the band's promised "return to simplicity" -- a promise on which they deliver gloriously, by the way -- but it feels like the perfect choice for the album's lead single, and a triumphant, achingly gorgeous return from one of our favorite bands...

premiere: listen to Bouquet’s lovely debut EP In A Dream

BOUQUET // IN A DREAM

California "kaleidoscopic pop" duo Bouquet follow up one of the most dreamily beautiful tracks of the year with their haunting debut EP, In A Dream. From the warm and gently woozy opening track, to the jaunty/slightly creepy longing of "Come To Your House", the gorgeous, bittersweet melancholy of "Over the Mountains", and the lilting, romantic dream pop perfection of "Falling", it's a lean and lovely record that lulls, soothes, and renews in just under 20 minutes. In A Dream is out next week on limited 10" via Ulrike/Folktale Records. Listen:

Bouquet will play a record release show in Eagle Rock this weekend, followed by a handful of west coast dates in April; check those after the jump...

premiere: Keep Shelly in Athens – Fractals

KSiA // FRACTALS

Greece's Keep Shelly in Athens introduce the wistful, breathy sighs of new singer Myrtha with a softly shimmering new Balearic-pop gem: smoldering new single "Fractals" evokes the kind of hopeful, dreamy melancholy and vague nostalgia the group has mastered in the time since we first met back in the day, and it's a promising preview of the wealth of lovely new material the duo are set to unveil in the very near future...

premiere: Yumi Zouma – Alena

YUMI ZOUMA // ALENA

Yumi Zouma came out of nowhere early this year with an EP of softly shimmering, twilit dream-disco that was so pitch-perfect (right down to the cover art; some might even suggest it was 'custom-built' for us) that it almost felt like it was destined to be a fluke, a debut that was surely the result of some kind of serendipitous long-distance magic that a young group has trouble ever recapturing. We are psyched to report, however, that this is not the case: the band's gorgeous, sentimental new single "Alena" is the most disco thing the Yumis have ever done, and by the time singer Kim Pflaum hits that swooning, bittersweet refrain -- "Come over here and dance with me / it’s true that you will never see me feel better" -- it also feels like their shining/defining pop moment. Yumi Zouma's Alena single is out today on Cascine.

YZ goes on tour later this month with their fellow New Zealander Lorde, followed by an appearance at Iceland Airwaves + a few U.S. shows in November. Check all of their dates after the jump...
