Young Gary, Indiana, producer Jlin just released her new album Dark Energy, a mind-warping collection of progressive mutant-footwork jams, on London label Planet Mu. She recently spoke with self-titled about the genesis of each track on the record, and had this to say about working with the brilliant Holly Herndon on the menacing, anxiety-inducing "Expand", Jlin's first ever collaboration:
"Her style totally challenged mine, and that’s what made the collab work so well...
"Trouble always follows me I know / or maybe I just follow trouble"Very psyched to introduce IDYLL, the new collaboration from Chicagoans Angelina Lucero + JoJo Yang. The duo's spectral debut single finds Lucero's devastating, lovelorn voice (hopefully you're already familiar) hovering over Yang's shadowy/sexy, beautifully restrained bass-heavy production, which ebbs and swells to hit hardest at all the right times...
"The track is almost lullabye like with nature sounds and silky chops of P Rico's "hang with me" on the chorus. The production I did on this was old school 90's ATL Bass inspired with tribal drums fluttering over the breakdown" -- the GTW
"sounds like a future version of a so so def bass allstars compilation" -- some dude on soundcloud
We realize these are a couple minutes late, but they've finally finished developing, so here you go: Lollapalooza 2013 in polaroids, starring WAVVES, MS MR, Foals, DIIV, Smith Westerns, Father John Misty, St. Lucia, Supreme Cuts, the beautiful city of Chicago + more.
