I was first put on to West London’s Bullion a couple years back on the strength of his amazing Pet Sounds In The Key Of Dee mixtape, which still gets quite a bit of play around here. And now, this single from his new Young Heartache 12″ EP is an early contender for the jam of Spring ’09, combining everything I love about the intensely soulful, vaguely psychedelic productions of dudes like Dilla, Oh No, and the Avalanches. Busy P and Mary Anne Hobbes are big fans, and Boomkat says the song has a “magical Boards Of Canada-visit-Studio 54 feel,” which also works fine:
