I was unfamiliar with Hartford, Connecticut's Chris Bugnacki -- aka Pearl Sugar -- before seeing him open for Men I Trust on their recent U.S. tour, but I was instantly charmed by his oddly moving confessional synth-pop, which was funny, sad, irreverent, and kind of intensely emotional all at once. Today we're psyched to premiere Pearl Sug's heavy-hearted new single "Scarlet", a swaying, instantly nostalgic ballad that could have soundtracked all of the '80s proms and teen heartbreak montages if not for its darkly acerbic lyrics.
