Shout out to our boy Greg for the heads up on the charming and eminently listenable lo-fi guitar pop from HOOPS, which is seemingly just one of the many projects of a kid named Drew Auscherman. For our money, the songwriting is consistently as strong as the stuff with which it will inevitably be compared — Mac Demarco comes to mind — and there are legit flashes of brilliance to be found in the tapes' collective, gently warped 40-minutes, starting with tape #1's basketball-as-metaphor-for-love opening track "Nothing But Net". We're also getting a serious TOPS vibe from some of HOOPS' better jams, which is always a very good thing. Stream + download both tapes below:
