Purity Ring covers Soulja Boy:
Purity Ring :: Grammy
Purity Ring are starting to remind me of jj. Don’t know why I didn’t see it before, though ‘Ring takes the hazy narcotics and dials up the thump.
For pop culture credibility, I tried listening to Soulja Boy’s version — almost unlistenable.
I’m glad to know that I’m not the only one who sees that connection. I wrote basically the same thing (only longer) in my review for the track on Indie Shuffle. On this track they really did ‘jj-cover-by-numbers’ with just enough of their own style to make me forgive them.
jj’s covers (most of them anyway) blow this away. This sounds like some serious mall-pop (hip-shop?) typea shiz. Lame.
best stuff i’ve heard from them yet. i think mall-pop is the right direction and maybe the final direction for anyone anyways. dare i say it is the “one direction”?
It’s the right direction for getting them dollars. For artistic integrity and a lasting impact on the progression of music in general…absolutely not.
Not saying I wouldn’t do it myself if I had the means and needed the bread. Doesn’t mean I have to like it though (and I don’t).
j_brooks is that you? “artistic integrity” lol!
Lolz OMG IKNOWRITE!!!!1
