premiere: stream John Maus – A Collection of Rarities…

We’ve already heard a few standout tracks from John Maus‘ forthcoming compilation of rarities and previously unreleased material, and now Ribbon Music has hooked us up with the mostly unheard (unless you frequent MausSpace), decade-plus-spanning, remixed + remastered collection in its entirety for your listening pleasure. We’ll probably never know why some of these tracks missed the cut the first time around — see “The Law,” “I Don’t Eat Human Beings,” and of course, “(Molly)” and “Bennington” — but we’re psyched to finally have them on wax. A Collection of Rarities and Previously Unreleased Material is out July 17 on Ribbon Music. The limited translucent pink vinyl special edition LPs are almost gone, but the label has also hooked us up with 3 copies to give away. Just tell us your favorite Maus jam in the comments, and we’ll pick a winner next week.

Gotta go with “Tenebrae.” I’m not Christian–or religious at all–but the video for this song?! I was close to converting. Video looks like it isn’t around anymore, sadly. Probably removed for using images from Jesus of Nazareth. Y’all will just have to picture a glowing, resurrected Christ entering your empty room to the banging synth at the end of the song.
