The first-ever gorilla vs. bear festival goes down at the Granada Theater here in Dallas in less than one month (July 23!), so we’ve put together this little mixtape as something of an introduction to all of the bands playing the fest for the uninitiated. Heck, my cousin is performing at The Granada, and I had to pay for my ticket. Wasn’t sure if family members would get free tickets and I wanted to be sure and get a spot at the show to see her.

Gorilla v. Bear has been my default source of new music for a little over two years now. While there are a variety of good sources to listen to new music, Gorilla v. Bear has been consistently the best.
Honorable Mentions:
Aquarium Drunkard’s quest for good music is admirable and without peer. I can only imagine the time and effort put into the website and its musical offerings. However at times, it can verge into the esoteric.
Hipster Runoff: Carlos’ wit is sardonic and cuts to the quick. His mocking remarks are Swiftian in content and his delivery is unique and appealing. However, his ironic observations can, at times, deter from the sublime pleasures of the music.
Brooklyn Vegan: How hard can your job be? You are in Brooklyn. Open up your window and throw a rock. But seriously, the site does an excellent job on keeping its followers posted on the international music epicenter of NYC.
My Old Kentucky Blog: Great website. Cool robot in Converse and a nice kitten in Adidas with the fat laces. Great source of new folk music and all types of new music. However, there may be a geographical bias over there at MOKB. And we all know G vs. B would never have any similar bias. I mean, they hardly cover White Denim, Pure X, and the Lower Dens.
I’ll be in town from SF visiting friends and family. I’d love to go to the show.I’m a past resident of the lower greenville area & do miss the music scene(SF just doesn’t compare).
