Here’s the closing track from our undisputed album of the year at this point, Shabazz Palaces‘ Black Up. Digable Planets fans will appreciate the “Escapism” nod at the end (which, as Ishmaelites points out, originates from this).

Love it love it love it. This is just awesome. Nice that you can still hear the Digable Planets vibe in there, but it’s also light years away.
Shabazz Palaces’ avant-garde approach to hip-hop is reminiscent of how Wu-Tang tackled the gangster-rap cliches of the 90′s. The material sells itself. No additives or preservatives. Their material thus far, in my opinion, is the most enlightened, hard-hitting, “steez oozing” hip-hop to come out within the last decade. BLACK UP along with the previous material are a most buy!
oh. my. god…

Sounds like THEESatisfaction on this track. Two of Seattle’s best.
this is the best track they’ve put out so far. Extra digable-ish with female vocals from Theesatisfaction.
ho-lee-sheeeeiit! fucking on fire! so glad i just bought $12 tix to see these guys play at the troubadour in l.a.
Shabazz.
Shabazz.
I kept disregarding these guys because the very first time I heard a track of theirs I wasn’t feelin it. Now I’m seeing their name fucking everywhere and just now figured out it’s Butterfly on the mic.
Like a worse Dr. Octogon?
nah not at all, actually
Shabazz Palaces make the most intelligent, original hip-hop I’ve heard in ages. So refreshing and it’s like they’re not even trying.
…but album of the year? Haha, no.
i soo wish the dude at http://thebeeshine.com/ would in interview Shabazz Palaces. That video would be tight.
