I drove up from Austin for this because the show here sold out too quickly. Jesus what a show. Probably my favorite of the year, despite the crippling heat. Incredible incredible band.

actually, the nytimes review isn't too far off. these new songs are way over produced and just too damn hard for the guys to pull off live. chris is a fine producer, but every time i hear the new album i want the songs to be less than they are, lighter than they are. too much tinkering and they seem to overthink everything these days.

actually anon @ 3:35, it's way less produced then yellow house. They are a band that does semi intricate arrangements, and they're gorgeous. That NY times review doesn't even read like one. Reads like a review by a guy that didn't like that band and went into the show knowing he wasn't going to like it. Not to mention it's actually just as a piece of writing, pretty crappy. If you've seen this band live, you know they are the real deal and absolutely breathtaking. If it doesn't resonate with you, fair enough but that kinda sucks for you.

I saw them on the 7th in the Twin Cities. They pulled off every song perfectly and were able to sound almost exactly like their cd. Don't be a d-bag. They're plenty capable of pulling off their own sound.

i was waiting out in that line while Here We Go Magic, the band i came to see, played.
that was the longest, slowest moving line ever.

i had no idea grizzly bear was so loved.

it was a fantastic show. i'm happy that grizzly bear is so loved but i kind of miss the days when you could see them at club dada without waiting in such a ridiculously long line.

this is anon 3:35…i've seen the guys several times…twice during yellow house tour and two recent great shows – one in brooklyn after their radiohead tour last year and the other at the brooklyn academy of music with the philharmonic. all great shows. let me restate…they pull the new songs off live, it's just the emotion of the songs is carried out at a crest for so long (particularly daniel's songs) that it doesn't make them resonate like some of their older stuff for some people. and to the guy who says veck is less produced, you don't really have a clue. these songs were tinkered with over the course of a long period of time to try to perfect – by the band, but especially by taylor in the production process.

<3ed Grizzly Bear. Wish Granada would get a better line system going. I missed Here We Go Magic because of that damn line! Makes me muy triste. However, it's hard to be sad for long when Grizzly Bear's set was so damn beautiful. Maybe I'll get there earlier next time.

i didnt see the show, so let me comment on the photos. which are gorgeous. the amount of drama and tension captured is impressive, given the environment. the texture of the faces are also surprisingly detailed and rich. the first one of ed on stage for example really did that well. keep it up. oh, the double/triple exposures with the polaroids were superb.

I also think Ratliff is right on, and actually the writing is more succinct than most you will find. I really enjoyed the Austin show, but if I were going to point out the things that kept it from being a totally rapt show for me it would be exactly what Ratliff points out in his article very well. I especially agree about Bear's kit. The less I have to listen to his electronic trigger pad the better. In a live setting, I definitely prefer to just hear the instruments and not an ambiance of the recordings.

Mr NYTIMES is a schmuck. I saw them at Town Hall and both bands where awesome.
