Britt Daniel of Spoon

Last night we managed to catch Spoon perform a pretty gangster -- and intimate -- twenty song set on their "secret" club tour at Dallas' lovely Granada Theater, a classy joint which is rather hastily becoming one of the city's more reliable venues. The Austin foursome (as a live outfit, anyway) performed a rousing set of post-A Series of Sneaks gems and a handful of Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga cuts, including "Don't Make Me a Target," "Don't You Evah," a dirty "Black Like Me," (ed. note: our new favorite Spoon song) and the live debut of "The Underdog," the new LP's first true single.

With the lot of Britt's extended family scattered throughout the audience, fool was in bright spirits busting his signature robotic gesticulations and shrevident guitar freak-outs on our favorite cuts off of Gimme Fiction, and all the other classics that made their way into the Jack Daniels. I mean, the set. Not a terrible Tuesday by any stretch.
