Teenage Symphony
I have a new favorite local band (Plano represent), and their name is Teenage Symphony. Forget for a second that their list of influences happens to read like my iPod's "Most Played" list (the Zombies, Beach Boys, Elliott Smith, The Kinks, etc.). Their unique, almost paradoxical style of haunting, lo-fi symphonic pop feels both huge and extremely intimate; it's also seemingly joyful at times, and impossibly sad at others. Dallas blog We Shot J.R. describes them as "a Spacemen 3 marching band fronted by people with a Brian Wilson fetish", and the band seemed to like that description, so we'll go with that. Expect to hear much more from these guys.
