I’m pretty obsessed with the comedian Bill Hicks; I sampled an interview of him on the track ‘John in Irish’. His comedy is so poignant but crass; cringy but truth-loaded. My favorite thing he made is this fake ninja film -- he and his friends shot and edited the movie, and Bill overdubbed most of all the voices and wrote the music...

When I went down to LA to work with Pat Jones on mixing my tracks, he showed me a few videos of Hermeto Pascoal - a badass jazz multi-instrumentalist from Brazil. This video of him using the lake to make music is just wild. My bassist, Scott Brown, also loves Hermeto and this slightly more obscure video of him playing his own body...

My 7th grade math-and-science teacher (I went to a small school) taught me a lot more than just about cumulo-nimbus clouds and soh-cah-toa. I also credit him with shaping my taste in music. Thanks, Mr. Rose, for showing me and my classmates these gems...
