I met the guitarist Glenn Jones years ago while on tour with the late great Jack Rose, another legend in the world of American Primitive Guitar. I’ve been lucky enough to have Glenn glue my beloved 12-string Martin back after countless airline debacles. He’s also enlightened me to the world of partial capos. (he makes them with skulls on them now for anyone interested). This is my favorite Glenn Jones album, and also the saddest. I’ve learned a lot from him as a guitar player, particularly in relation to open tunings, as Glenn is someone who is truly and singularly dedicated to the exploration of his craft. That dedication shows, as this isn’t just some noodling, meandering exercise in right hand technique. These songs are perfect miniature compositions with fully realized and truly memorable melodies. -- Marissa Nadler
