I came to El Paso in ’86 thinking I’d be here 2 years and move on. Still here! I grew up in San Diego surfing and riding my Dirt Bike. I still ride a Dirt Bike, but good surf is hard to come by in El Paso. I started at KLAQ as an overnight DJ, eventually forming a friendship with Big Al Jones and going on to do mornings on KLAQ ’87 - ’92. In 1995, I was given the opportunity to start a new station within our company, 93.1 KISS-FM. In 2003, I was asked to come back to KLAQ as Program Director. I am also Operations Manager for our group of stations. (KLAQ/KISS-FM/KROD)
I met my wife Barbara in El Paso and were married in 1997. We have a boy & a girl. I have many more children here at the station! I also received my Private Pilot’s license in 1997. I travel to San Diego & Austin to see family. I’m always happy to come back to El Paso and hear The Q! Thank YOU for Rockin’ with KLAQ!"

Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Shocking Pinks
THANK YOU FOR HAVING US GvsB! Lastly we need to post this song. The Shocking Pinks are from Christchurch like us, and are maybe one of the most underrated bands from New Zealand in our opinion. We hate it when people say that things are underrated, but we really think that Nick Harte's song writing (especially in this time period) is something so special...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Bird Nest Roys
I've been lucky enough to work with Flying Nun the last 3 years re-issuing a lot of their back catalog. I'm the first to admit that I'm not so well versed with the obscure parts of the catalog. Bird Nest Roys' 'Me Want Me Need Me Get' is a great compilation we did of the band's early works...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: The Skeptics
I watched the documentary "Sheen of Gold" for the second time at a mate's place the other day and've been on a bit of a Skeptics bender ever since. I believe this song was released a couple years after their singer died and the band had subsequently broke up...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Secret Knives
Secret Knives is Ash Smith from Wellington, who also plays bass in Over The Atlantic and is touring with the Shocking Pinks right now. His album "Affection" is a MUST-download from Bandcamp, and his bi-annual live shows are insane if you can ever catch one...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Wet Wings
Wet Wings were a great band from Christchurch. Lucy and Darian created a really special world in their music, there really wasn't anything like it in New Zealand at the time. It was actually the first time I heard about Gorilla Vs Bear, when Chris posted about their first EP 'Skin To Soil' in 2010...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Lontalius
Eddie is from Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. I wish I had a fraction of the talent that he has, his songs legitimately terrify me and make wonder what the point is to anything. He just signed a record deal and released the best video of the year, and is starting to play overseas heaps now that he's finished school...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover: Aldous Harding
I saw Aldous Harding play this song live a couple of months back and I was completely and utterly spellbound. She hails from Lyttelton, a port town about a half hour away from where I live. Her music is haunting, her voice is beautiful and her wit is sharp -- I fell in love at first listen...
Yumi Zouma x Gorilla vs. Bear takeover – BEAT RHYTHM FASHION
Please welcome the lovely New Zealanders from Yumi Zouma to Gorilla vs. Bear, as Christie, Charlie, Josh + Sam will be running things and sharing some amazing stuff for you guys all day. Stay up on all of their posts here, check out their beautiful new EP collection here, and someone please buy them this 7" so they never have to get corporate jobs:
It's no secret that the 1980's was a very s
