"The music takes us back through Stone Roses to the Turtles and Hollies, descends into total, wing-pinning noise, then rises up directly into the clouds with almost blinding hope, the stuff of Christian rock camps, but with stolen beer..."--Edmonton Sun on Women

Here are two tracks from Canada's Women (not to be confused with San Francisco's Girls), taken from their self-titled new record, which was recorded in the basement of their labelmate -- the great Chad VanGaalen -- "on ghettoblasters and old tape machines." This is all I've heard from the new album, which Flemish Eye likens to Deerhoof, the Velvet Underground, and '50s informed pop. Both songs have been on repeat all day, but "Black Rice" is the standout; and, like VanGaalen's best songs, it gets better with each listen:

Women is out July 8th on Flemish Eye Records.
