"If Burial's aural surface is a scratched, pitted one in which affect pools and runs, this is its polar opposite: smooth, impermeable, saturated with color."--Dusted Magazine on Underwater Dancehall

As I've mentioned before, I'm not exactly well-versed in the realm of dubstep, despite having had Burial's Untrue on blast for much of the last 2 months straight. Still, there's obviously some really compelling stuff going on right now in the genre, as evidenced by the release of Untrue and Pinch's Underwater Dancehall within weeks of one another last month. And while Underwater Dancehall isn't quite the masterpiece that Untrue proved to be, it definitely has its moments. Album-closer "Lazarus" in particular perfectly embodies the record's fitting title; the song's final two minutes are nearly as dark and gorgeous as anything on Untrue. Also, make sure you're rocking your finest headphones for that instrumental version of "Brighter Day."

Pick up all of Underwater Dancehall -- including a 2nd disc featuring the album's instrumentals -- at eMusic. Well worth the 20 downloads. Or get the 2xLP (instrumentals only) here. Read an interview with Pinch here.
