Here's a little change of pace: how about some authentic Scandinavian Americana, courtesy of Sweden's The Tallest Man on Earth. Regardless of how apt it might be, no one wants to hear another Dylan comparison; so instead, think Clarence Ashley, Dock Boggs, and other assorted banjo-playing Appalachian-folk legends you might find on the Anthology of American Folk Music. The whole Shallow Grave LP (his debut, by the way) is fairly outstanding if you're into this sort of thing, but this one is my current favorite:
