Tirzah's debut album Devotion is out today and we think it's incredible, so we asked her to run things here on the site for the day. She starts us off with a stone cold classic from one of the records biggest inspirations:
Tirzah's glowing debut LP Devotion is finally here. As I've already mentioned, the record feels like such a sincere, elegantly romantic, and distinctly modern (thanks to Mica Levi's haunting minimalist production) take on everything I loved about '90s R&B love songs -- think Aaliyah, D'Angelo, SWV -- and it's right up there with Freedom as one of my favorite records of 2018...
London's Tirzah follows up last weekend's "Affection" video with the haunting title track from her Mica Levi-produced new album Devotion, out next month. Video directed by @crackstevens:
Tirzah shares another beautiful, tender gem from her album of the year contender / new collection of "straight up love songs", Devotion, out August 10th on Domino:
Such a sweet, beautiful jam from London artist Tirzah's debut LP Devotion, out this summer on Domino. This one's an automatic addition to our songs of the year playlist, and this is the second album called Devotion in as many days that we're suddenly very psyched about...
“I told her one day we’d be beautiful / and maybe we could start a band / ‘cause i was born to sing / and she was born to dance...”
Not sure how we missed this one: spend your next 40+ minutes watching Jessie Ware's amazing recent performance at L.A.'s KCRW from a couple weeks back in its entirety, in glorious HD.
