billy woods unleashes another astounding, mind-blowing monolith. The word "cinematic" always springs to mind when trying to describe the vivid + immersive worlds woods creates every time out, and after just barely scratching surface on this one, the deeply harrowing GOLLIWOG already feels more real and nightmarish than the most hallucinatory horror flicks, my own personal Darko Miličić PTSD demons aside. I love this evocative line from the album bio on woods' site, and it sets the scene justly: "A black carnival pitched in a muddy field overnight, empty rides whirring and clattering in the dark."
