premiere: Ellie Herring reworks Dream Wife’s “Fire” for the dancefloor
Dream Wife's most recent singles are two of the most urgent, empowering, and subversive rock jams of 2017, so we're very psyched to premiere the group's new remix, in which one of the most versatile producers in the game reworks the London-based band's explosive post-punk anthem "Fire" for the dancefloor, disembodying Rakel Mjölli's impassioned vocals and flipping them into something more haunting and hypnotic. Ellie Herring tells us about the unique challenge of turning a cathartic shredder like "Fire" into a club-ready banger:
"Remixing ‘Fire’ was challenging in the sense that I did what I normally do by creating 12 edits in 3 different genres...but then multiply that by 10. I’m exaggerating, but this production timeline really caught me in one of my more indecisive stints of 2017 & I overworked it until pigs flew. Fortunately Dream Wife handed over a lot of great cuts from the original; I pulled off the shredding guitar riffs & focused more on keeping Rakel’s vocal lead towards the front. The remix ended up more of a rework, but in a format that I’ve been playing out lately.”
Dream Wife's Fire 12" EP drops September 29th via Lucky Number.
