new Japanese Breakfast – Boyish
Japanese Breakfast follows up one of our favorite songs of the year with another absolutely lovely jam from her forthcoming LP Soft Sounds From Another Planet, due next month on Dead Oceans. Michelle Zauner says about the acerbically romantic and very classic-sounding "Boyish":
Craig Hendrix and I wanted to produce this sort of grandiose Roy Orbison-esque ballad. We wanted the chorus to have big arrangements, lots of harmonies and synth strings, to create a really sweeping, melancholic effect that mirrored the nature of the lyrics. The song is about jealousy and sexual incompetence. It's about feeling ugly.
Soft Sounds From Another Planet is out July 14th. Catch Japanese Breakfast this weekend in Dallas opening for Alex G at Club Dada.
