As I mentioned last month, the lovely Alela Diane has signed to Rough Trade, and will release her new LP To Be Still in February '09. The first song to surface from the follow-up to Alela's vastly underrated (but apparently huge in France) Pirate's Gospel is the starkly haunting "White as Diamonds." The Daytrotter version was one of my favorite songs of '07, and while the studio version features more fully realized instrumentation, it's no less stunning:
