Blitzen Trapper

I don't know much about Portland's Blitzen Trapper, but from what I can tell, they're pretty much impossible to peg down. Their myspace page lists their genre as indie/country/electro, and Pitchfork recently posted an awesome outtake from the band's Wild Mountain Nation LP sessions that was likened to Of Montreal or the New Pornographers. Here's another exclusive track from the aforementioned sessions that won't appear on the album; it's a beautiful, affecting ballad that's different from anything the band has done. If these are the outtakes that didn't make the album, this thing had better be great.

Rakim and Ghostface will be playing SXSW, at Stubb's on Saturday afternoon. RSVP here.

White Denim has posted two new tracks on their myspace page. "Untitled" could be mistaken for a Broken Social Scene instrumental, and "I Can Tell" is a surf/garage stomp that basically epitomizes why I love this band so much. Trust us when we tell you not to miss them at SXSW.
