Grouper's overwhelmingly beautiful new LP, Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill, has turned into something of a late night staple around here over the last week or so. Give this one your time, as there are some subtly gorgeous melodies to be found floating just below the murky depths, and Liz Harris' transcendent vocals always lend some hope to the hazy sadness. The impossibly heart-wrenching "Heavy Water/I'd Rather Be Sleeping" has quickly become one of my favorite songs of '08:

mp3:
grouper :: heavy water/i'd rather be sleeping
grouper :: invisible

Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill is out now on Type Records.
