From Esau Mwamwaya to that new Amadou & Mariam track to the Radioclit remix of Mujava's "Township Funk," I've been on a serious Afro-pop kick lately. I've also been digging on Light in the Attic and Vampisoul's recently released series of compilations, which are loaded with the kind of '60s and '70s West African pop (including Highlife, psych, folk, jazz, funk, and Afrobeat) that helped birth these new sounds. Chances are you've heard a good number of these jams if you're at all familiar with the genre(s), but this is a good way to find them all in one spot.

Here's RATATAT's new video for their next single, "Shempi." This is similar to (if not exactly the same as) the slightly disturbing drugged-out psychedelic visuals they used in their live set in Dallas a couple weeks back. Now they just need to break out the fucked up clip they used for "Mumtaz Khan."
