Fat Possum continues its winning streak of late (see that new Hoops EP) with the announcement of the magical, genre-defying debut LP from hyper-talented multi-instrumentalist and possible time traveller from the future Kadhja Bonet. The absurdly beautiful “Honeycomb” has an instantly familiar, blissfully vintage psychedelic soul vibe that could disarm even the most jaded of cratediggers, but there's something unmistakably modern about the song -- and the rest of the record, for that matter -- that makes it feel like a widescreen instant classic. Bonet's background in classical music shines through in her accomplished arrangements and graceful playing (guitar, flute, violin, etc.); combine that with her elegant production, an apparently effortless melodic sensibility, and those stunning vocals, and her music radiates a decidedly cinematic baroque pop/folk quality that feels utterly timeless. The Visitor is out October 21 on Fat Possum / Fresh Selects. Stream/download "Honeycomb" below:
