video premiere: Body Type – Dry Grass

Screen Shot 2019-02-05 at 8.55.16 AM

Australian “trash can girl bandBody Type share the dreamlike video for “Dry Grass“, a self-described “dissonant disco ripper set in suburbia” taken from the group’s stellar 2018 self-titled debut EP. The video, beautifully shot and directed by the band’s own Annabel Blackman + Georgia Wilkinson-Derums and inspired by drummer Cecil Coleman‘s “obsession with the greenskeeper flattening the grass at Marrickville Bowlo at 11am every day“, feels like a surreal exploration of the song’s sense of angst, disillusionment, and nostalgia at returning home to find that things are different now, but nothing’s really changed. Wilkinson-Derums tells us about collaborating with her bandmate on the vid:

It was originally inspired by the greenskeeper and his machine at the Marrickville Bowling Club [in Sydney]. Having wanted to collaborate on a clip for sometime, Annabel [guitarist] and I conceptualized a rough storyboard and went about finding a brilliant cast and crew to help us experiment with our Body Type directorial debut. We were fortunate enough to get the exceptionally talented William Zappa (Mad Max, Rake, Dead Europe) to play our wild-eyed protagonist, escorting us through an atypical day on the green. Also featured is Lindy Morrison (Go-betweens) who acted out a very special cameo. All of our love and thanks goes to Jack Saltmiras, Olivia Simpson and Amelia Fell for bringing it together.

Body Type’s self-titled EP is out now on Partisan/Inertia Music. Catch the band down in Austin next month at SXSW.
