Catacombs (out on Domino in July in the U.S. ) is the latest effort from the most perenially underrated dude in indie rock, Cass McCombs. His Dropping the Writ was one of my favorite albums of '07, and the new record looks like it's shaping up to be the definition of a grower, with highlights like "You Saved My Life" and "Lionkiller Got Married" ranking among the most beautiful and affecting (and best) work McCombs has ever done.
