Here’s another new one from Purity Ring‘s debut LP Shrines, out 7/24 on 4AD:
Purity Ring :: Fineshrine
their songs are catchy so I’ll ignore that they’re all the same ~ <3
Not bad, but their weakest one yet imo. They’re just defining their aesthetic at this point I reckon (which they’ve done a good job of), but hope future releases have a little more variance and a bit more melodic complexity rather than just mainly textural. Her lyrics are awesome though on every song, and this is no exception. Evocative imagery ftw. BB.
when i talk about music in the future i will talk more like you
I can’t wait for this album.
i would have rather seen an EP and then had them come back with something different cuz idk idk idk getting kind of uninteresting.
Everything they put out is amazing. idk idk idk idk idk idk idk idk idk wtf you’re talking about.
noice, delighted they have stuck to their guns. dead catchy
Is her voice processed or what?
“Fineshrine” immediately brings to mind Sleigh Bells. Singer Megan James sounds a bit more fragile and carefree than Sleigh Bells’ Alexis Krauss, but Corin Roddick — who handles the insrumentals for Purity Ring — sets up a rhythm that comes close to a hip-hop version of some of Sleigh Bells’ slower songs.
Looks like “Shrines” leaked over the weekend and I has got it. It’s honestly a little disap. Was waiting for another ‘Obedear’ or ‘Ungirthed’-level track and it didn’t deliver. It’s got some ok stuff though, like some mild rapping from the dude-half of the duo, which kinda works surprisingly. I don’t think it’s BNM quality since half the good tracks came out last year, but we’ll see. Her vocal style seems so half-assed and lazy a lot of the time. Hope she works on them pipes a little and get some more emotion going. They gots room to grow though. BB.
