Listen to Liars‘ new LP XIXIW — out June 5 on Mute — in its entirety below. NPR calls it “the best Radiohead album since Kid A,” and while we’re not sure how accurate that is, it’s sounding pretty great so far. Highlights upon first listen include “Who Is the Hunter,” “Annual Moon Words,” the title track, and of course, brilliant lead single “No. 1 Against the Rush“:

It’s damn good, but not >Radiohead.
Not the best Liars album I’ve heard – definitely not comparable to Radiohead – but still a good, solid listen.
very nice
oh man! really great record! no reason to compare to radiohead. this record is innovative and the production and mixing is great
Not comparable to Radiohead ? For once the comparison is obviously true, the drum beats, the bass lines, vocal samples, you have to be deaf not to here some Kid A on this album, though it has its own direction, not depressing or dehumanized at all, more threatening and strange. So yeah, influenced by Radiohead, but still a Liars album. And a great one.
npr kind of setting people up for disappointment there. I think there are definitely some radiohead-esque tinges, but its a really solid album on its own(possibly their most consistent album yet).
this is fantastic.
sounds like ‘rawk’ band trying to do electronics. still nice listen.
I kind of hate this, and I love Liars.
I’m sure Liars are still shrugging off contempt for NPR after having called their latest “the best radiohead album since KID A”. The fuck is that? It’s a Liars album and nothing more. That aside, this thing is hella weird, not sure if I like it yet though.
“the best radiohead album since KID A”? Am I missing something or is this an entirely different group? That said, an above average album with some quality moments reminiscent of AIR rather than anything close to Radiohead.
best album of 2k12. doesnt matter what else comes out, and there’s some heavy hitters
I hear the comparison, but this record stands on its own. I think it’s fucking great. So nice to hear such risky, artsy sound.
