Over/under on the percentage of the Lana Del Ray phenomenon that’s solely due to her sex appeal (and lips) — 50%? I say over, with no complaints.

C’mon dude. I’m no hater, I love the Video Games song. But seriously I don’t think this is a live recording at all. Notice how she moves away from the microphone several times while she sings and the voice remains at the same level throughout. I think her management puts out these fabricated “live” videos (the same with those other “premises” videos) the moment she has a really bad live performance. Like the one over the weekend.
SNL is a *live* show.
I wish she could really deliver it in person. I wish she was like the character in the video games video. Feisty and alive. Why she always sounds sort of bad and looks zombie-like and on xanax/valium live is a mystery to me. Only time will tell.

Plastic stereotypes are not cool. Amazing song though.

You are all stupid, she is incredible hot. Love the vintage thing, the lips, all of it. I could careless what a record label has to do with her. I love her music, love to make love to her music, and hands down she is the hottest thing in a long awhile.

I wish Lana could break free. The buzz on the video alone made her. But it’s the constant fabrication that gets me down on this. Even if she were like “guys, sorry that wasn’t my best performance but I”m working on it”. It’s like they’re pretending nothing is happening. Here’s a woman who is not a natural performer and this becomes more and more clear the further they push her…instead of helping her sort it out and give her time, they keep pushing her on the public eye…no matter how many fake “live” videos they put out, it’s not going to change. Give the woman some time. I feel like she should get new management and take time off. She looks out of depth in the live arena.
I really just don’t understand why everyone loves her so much.

The levels staying the same when she moves closer and further from the mic is called compression guys. It’s perfectly plausible that this is live. It does look like she struggles to perform live, but somehow, that’s part of the whole image, the whole sultry act she puts on.

Lanabb. U look good bb. But u do not look ‘alt’. Consider a pixie cut, no makeup, unflattering clothing, and letting ur pit hair grow long. The indiesphere may then give u the respect u deserve for ur pop/singer-songwriter sensibilities. Otherwise, ride ur ‘try-hard’ looks and image 2 the top. These ppls respex means nada when u can snort all the roxies and xannies u want and travel the globe effing random bros with hot bods and mad ‘bad boy’ tats. I luv u n i wish u da best!

Watching it again, I get the impression that this is live in the sense that the “Yours Truly” and “La Blogotheque” shows are live… they probably got permission to use the hotel one evening, and recorded a version of the song, doing several takes until they got the perfect version. Camera placement definitely means that there were multiple takes.
Anyways, this is almost better than the original version. Stripping the song down to basics shows how solidly the song is crafted.

Wow, I like those little bluesy notes she sings at the end. Gives it a classic touch.
Her persona still annoys me, but whatever.
