Dum Dum Girls unveil the first track from their excellent new album Only in Dreams, out September 27 on Sub Pop. Dee Dee says:
“I won’t lie; it’s heart on sleeve. Have you ever numbed yourself to avoid pain only to oscillate between the subconscious and conscious? Ever felt compelled to address Life itself? Things can be so awful but at least they can also be bliss. Hope you listen to the song and feel something.”

Another solid track from the dum dum girls. http://squatpollution.blogspot.com/

“Faaaaaaaaaade into you/I think it’s strange you never knew”
HA~! I thought the exact same thing.
mazzy star thanks you for complimenting her style..

I think it reminds me a bit of the mode in the “Into you” track from Mazzy Star back in the days?!
I can see the Mazzy Star comparison… I love it. IT’s fresh yet has that nostalgic quality to it that makes perfect. One of the best tracks of the year IMO
The Mazzy Star influence is undeniable, but I’m okay with that. Every artist is influenced by someone before them. It’s a natural part of creating, if you ask me. This IS special in it’s own right. I’ve listened to it three times, and am damn moved. Despite the comparison, I still find it to be very original. Love it.
The song’s okay (a bit derivatiive as others have pointed out) but it sounds like she’s still using programmed drum loops and no bass – if that’s a production decision as opposed to a budget limitation then I think it’s a poor one.
it’s the same chord progression, and obviously she’s heard that song. it’s beyond me how people can be okay with blatantly taking parts of other peoples songs, especially one so well known that there’s not a snow balls chance of getting away with it.
A.E. has it right. Nick Lowe once quipped, “Who owns the chords, anyway?” Everything has been done already, then again some are more derivative than others, and this one is champs in that arena. But, I love the sound, and I’ve listened to it three times in a row because…I love the sound.
The verses are the same chord progression, tempo, drum beat, production sound, etc.etc, etc
its a rip off.
It’s gorgeous. All music is reinterpretation. We all have influences and ancestors. I love the harmonics and the production quality a lot.
Neil Young asked Hope Sandoval how much she loved this record, and I am sure Bob Dylan was Knocking on his door to tell him too, and that’s all fine and lovely because time is a concertina, and Dee Dee is their mother, time works like that.
The guitar reminds chord of another similar song with a female singer from the 90s and I just can’t put my finger on it. It is driving me crazy!
