Download the first single from Angles for free for the next 48 hours at thestrokes.com. We’re attempting to curb our enthusiasm and keep expectations reasonable over here, but despite widely publicized band tension — seemingly acknowledged in the song? — “Under Cover of Darkness” sounds like a legit return to form. Angles is out March 22.

you guys want to upload it? the website is down.
I have been waiting for this moment for like 3 years
I love these cans! Sweet jam!
YES.
sounds like a b side to their first album.
This is the worst song I have ever heard. It’s so flat and lifeless. Maybe they should get a producer to remind them why people ever liked them to begin with. Someone honest enough to call them out on their bullshit. Then they can stop turning out garbage and wondering why it just flops. Better luck next time boys.
alternative lenses man. flat and lifeless is productive. what’s good? nothing is good. this is flat and lifeless good. mmm. alternative lenses, mannn.
Productive as in making product. As in this brand needs something new to sell you but lacks the inspiration to do it in a way that doesn’t just insult you. This is shitty enough to be played at the mall. How hard do you need to squint in your “alternative lenses” to find something worthwhile here?
The single is some pretty unrelatable, shakey, visionless, poorly mixed, conceptually confused, desperate sounding shit. It’s really embarrassing. I think sometimes when bands achieve fast-fame it takes too much of the pressure off and they have difficulty keeping it up after their game has changed. I don’t think they ever really developed. I think someone took the cake out of the oven before it was ever fully cooked. Because they love cake and couldn’t wait. And the first bite was mostly frosting so it was pretty good. But the next bite was a little squishy and it was kinda hard to pinpoint why. By the third bite(album?) everyone knew this cake sucked and they shouldn’t be eating it. Eventually the cake was gone but for those who chowed down on every last crumb, (because they couldn’t bare to live in a world where the promise of cake was not delivered..) only a sour comeback stomach ache was in store for them.
You should put aside brand loyalty. They need a fucking life raft/producer and a graphic new designer. They need to figure out what makes/made them good and cultivate and explore that.
oh hush.
yo, your productive tirade started with your expressed dissatisfaction. how is this not a good exercise? education, man. if it pisses you off with its flatness — which it obviously has — then do something with it; learn from it. once conceptions of good and bad dissolve away, you’ve got you, man. to appreciate a song is to appreciate yourself at having read it so well. you know more than you some times thinks. do you hate corners? shadows? do you like putting your face up against things? do you live in a paranoid fantasyland where you find subscribe meaning to everything? hey, at least you’ve got your dissatisfaction. break those frames. make something to bypass your dissatisfaction. hard work bridges the gap between pain and all others, cuz pain doesn’t have an object; pain is in of itself. mmmm, slip on some alternative lenses man. and eat that cake. it’s good, i’m sure.
The cake is a lie.
listen to makeout videotape… not this
play this on a tape player in a huge empty gymnasium and record that with a low quality mic….then more people will love it. oh, and add some fuzz somewhere in the chain. i might just go do this now.
The streak continues, no bad song has ever been released by The Strokes. These men are future rock legends and haters can’t do anything about it. I can’t stop playing this tune. It’s a breath of fresh air and “Angles” will be a fourth epic. Yes, First Impressions On Earth was epic. Go find me a bad song from these men and I will give you a million dollars.
The Strokes have a new single and my boss refuses to pay me to write about it: http://mrshuffleupagus.blogspot.com/2011/02/strokes-are-back-and-they-brought-new.html
