Seven days into the new year, my favorite album from an insanely strong start to 2011 so far, edging out James Blake, Tennis, Julianna Barwick, and S-Dubz. Distant and dreamily wistful Fleetwood Mac-in-the-USSR vibes. According to Piper:

That cover art is spectacular. Although I can’t help but feel sorta like a perv after catching myself staring at the ass of the younger Puro. oh well best not to analyze these things.
Such an incredible album. All of those are, except for maybe Barwick. I love how P4k will be too scared to commit to Puro Instinct even though they’re clearly a pretty excellent lil band.
Pitchfork already did a Rising article on them back when they were Pearl Harbor.

I don’t think this album leaked quite just yet. If it did I would currently cruising around the back roads of town getting loose and listening to it. My big problem lies in the alphabetical order of my vinyl collection. Do I pair my copies of the Pearl Harbor 12′ right next to the Puro Instinct 12′? By all rights it the same band but do I risk destroying my perfect order to have their records perfectly grouped together!? oh my oh my. ……and Obama has to make real decisions.

Hey Chris, what did you think of the Smith Westerns album?
I have fairly high expectations for this album debut le Puro Instinct. I got really into their Pearl Harbor stuff and the California Shakedown/Slivers of You release. Having said that the best album I’ve heard in this new year is the Smith Westerns effort which I expect will then be dethroned by the upcoming effort from Julian Lynch.
