Avey Tare‘s crocodile-inspired Down There certainly sounds like it was recorded in an old abandoned church in a swamp (it was), and some of the more evocative descriptors from the press release — like “sloshy” and “waterlogged” and “murky” — definitely apply to this jam, the first to officially surface from the record (for real this time), but album closer “Lucky 1” is also oddly soulful and unexpectedly touching/intimate. This album is only 25 minutes long.
It’s good for a commute, but bittersweet if you want more.
Great song, cant wait till Avey drops “Down There”! And all the crocodile themed art was definitely the way to go.

It tells a story, It took me a while to figure it out. It turns your subconscious eye towards your own mortality. It’s hypnotic and purposeful and also frightening. The unrelenting beat of the song is cold and industrial, if you listen for it you can hear the steam valve blowing off rhythmically. And underneath it, the voice of a broken man singing as he toils away from inside the bowels of almighty Moloch. Some 19th century factory worker possibly pressing rivets into sheet metal, chained to his red hot giant steam powered monstrosity. Chained from the moment his mother birthed him. Alone and insignificant, the metal steam valves, the only suckling teet he has ever known, he sings for his brothers, and tender sons, ground up and consumed by the great steel devils….To them he sings “You are the Lucky 1″
And we are him and this song is a mirror for us to pear into our own encrypted, and tortured souls. Thank you Avey Tare for reminding us of the great sacrifice of our fathers.
This is an awesome song…strikes me as a song that would be on the soundtrack of a Guy Ritchie movie. =)
Cool song :)
