Our friend Dean from True Panther sent over this jam from Bubu King, the new EP from Sierra Leone's undisputed "King of Bubu," Janka Nabay. Nabay's pulsating modern take on traditional bubu music -- which is rooted in "ancient Muslim Timini funeral procession rhythms" -- is infectious and vibrant, and as Dean points out, sounds a bit at times like "shuffling minimal techno." Nabay, once a big star in his native Sierra Leone, is now a humanitarian living in Philly, and dude has quite the backstory. Taken from his bio:

"(Sierra Leonean) Rebels even appropriated his songs as killing themes -- they used his hits to rev themselves up, and also to lure innocent people out of hiding before murdering them. Janka fought back against the rebels with new songs...declaring that bubu music stands for peace, good governance and the empowerment of women."

Bubu King is out March 9 on True Panther. Pre-order the 12" EP here, or get the bundle of all 3 new True Panther releases (including Tanlines + Lemonade) here.
