With help on vocals from Iceland’s Thorunn Magnusdottir:
Now I want to hear the rest.
I thought they were doing the whole album? Where's the rest???!
They're doing the whole record – they're just releasing one song at a time.
How was that awful? I thought it was pretty damn fantastic. I mean, it's a simple song so it's hard to mess up, but Beck did a great job capturing the mood. I dig it.
i can't stand the way beck sings on this. the original is one the best lou reed vocal performances ever, and beck just thoughtlessly spreads his gruff, bored drawl across it. the original is intimate and cozy and really really tiny in the best way ever, this cover is sleazy and ugly, arms spread open but not giving a shit. for the record i love beck alot, and i hope the rest of the songs turn out better than this.
I like the track and production quality. Obviously great song. But i gotta agree with Sam about the intimacy of Lou Reed's original vocal. I don't think Beck quite hits that degree of personality and goes for style instead. Not the same.
