The Smith Westerns are four super young kids from Chicago that make soulful, seemingly-ramshackle-but-not-really, classic-sounding garage pop that is not entirely unlike another band we've been loving immensely lately, Denton's Fergus & Geronimo. The group's new self-titled debut full-length -- out now on vinyl on HoZac (featuring co-opted famous album cover, pictured above) -- is something like early Black Lips or Strange Boys, but with bigger/better, more infectious hooks. The kids in their hometown are apparently already into it, and it's quickly earning a spot alongside Fits as my (current) album of the summer:
