"Girls" are clearly in line to be the new black/wolf/f**k/crystals for 09. So far we've got Vivian Girls, U.S. Girls, "My Girls," and just Girls (not to mention Women), and now, riding the dirty wave of ultra lo-fi yet extremely melodic/endlessly hummable noise-pop that seems to be building right now comes Toronto's Little Girls and TX's own Fungi Girls.

Fungi Girls' upcoming 12"

We first heard about Fungi Girls from local blog We Shot J.R., and the band has since garnered its share of glowing national attention. Not bad for a couple of 14 & 15 year old kids from Cleburne. With repeat listens, the band's obvious knack for melody rises above their nearly impenetrable layer(s) of fuzz and blown out guitar/drums. Also, possibly the only group on myspace to list WAVVES as an influence:

The band has a few assorted releases coming soon, including a split on Not Not Fun.

The only thing I know about Toronto's Little Girls (aside from the fact that they have 3 promising songs up here) is that sometimes dropping a link to your 2-day-old myspace page in our comment section can result in having one of your songs given away for free right here on the blog:
