If you pre-ordered your copy of Merriweather Post Pavilion from Rough Trade, you would’ve received a “strictly limited, rare and exclusive mix cd, mixed by animal collective just for rough traders,” consisting of 8 uniformly awesome tracks that presumably influenced or inspired the band in some way. The eclectic mix features selections from two of my top 3 records of ’08Erykah Badu‘s heartfelt J Dilla tribute “Telephone,” and Grouper‘s “Stuck” — along with a handful of jams I was mostly unfamiliar with, including a tight new(ish) track from dubstep luminary Kode 9, and a song from Osamu Kitajima’s amazing, out-of-print 1971 album (released under the decidedly Anglo-sounding pseudonym Justin Heathcliff), which was only released in Japan and is definitely worth seeking out.
