I am mostly unfamiliar with London dubstep/dancehall producer The Bug, but I downloaded this insane Kode9-mixed sampler of jams from his new LP on a whim after reading good things from some reputable dudes. I was pretty much instantly mesmerized by just how urelentingly bleak and grimy this shit is (words like “apocalyptic,” “menacing,” and “claustrophobic” were used liberally in virtually anything I read about the record). Not for everyone, but if you’re feeling especially paranoid or desolate for some reason, this’ll make an uncomfortably appropriate late night soundtrack:

I don’t know if this is old or what, but Cocaine Blunts has an ill remix of Erykah Badu’s “Real Thing,” featuring Clipse and the Re-Up Gang (also, they used the shot I took of those dudes at the Mohawk during SXSW, but edited out the polaroid part). Almost as good as that remix of Badu’s “The Healer” with Pharoahe Monch that’s been floating around.
