"(Bullion) has transformed the Beach Boys' classic 1966 album into a whole new masterpiece...Dilla would have been up for a bootleg as inspired as this."--Exclaim

pet sounds: in the key of dee

The easiest (laziest) way to describe UK producer Bullion's Pet Sounds: in the Key of Dee would be to call it a more adventurous version of The Grey Album, but with J Dilla and the Beach Boys standing in for Jay-Z and the Beatles. Sounds like a fucking mess that should probably be rejected on principle alone. Instead, Bullion's deft fusion of snippets from Pet Sounds with beats from Dilla's expansive body of work amounts to something that is ultimately more enjoyable and more interesting than Danger Mouse's seminal mash-up album. And if that isn't enough for you, Bullion's mixtape serves as a reminder (as if you need it) of just how amazing Dilla really was. His beats were/are timeless, as evidenced by how natural they sound here. Here are some links to a couple sample tracks, but you can download the whole thing for free at Bullion's myspace.
