An interesting and enthusiastic crowd -- marked by a surprisingly high percentage of 14-year-olds -- took in Devendra Banhart's show last night at at the Granada Theater. Devendra's supergroup, consisting of Noah Georgeson, Andy Cabic, Pete Newsom, Luckey Remington, and Greg Rogove, has developed such an impressive ease and relaxed dynamic that the songs have almost become second nature. This was evident during their breezy, rollicking take on Vetiver's fantastic "You May Be Blue," and through the pitch-perfect, almost Gregorian harmonies that elevated the entire set. As I've mentioned before, regardless of your take on Devendra and crew's perceived loopy, "Spiritual Bonerz" schtick, their accomplished live show is always a force worth checking out. Only 5 dates left on this tour though (Austin tonight), so hurry.
